The 2023 Western Canadian Orienteering Championships are in Kelowna! Sage Orienteering Club is hosting the event, and getting a boost from some GVOC officials. This event is also doubling as the 2023 BC Orienteering Championships.
We’ll have three races in some of the best untapped terrain in the province. How often do you get the chance to try out some new terrain on brand new maps in a new city? Open classes will be available on all courses for each race for recreational orienteers.
Registration is not yet open. Expect it to open sometime in late March.
Able to help out with organizing the event? We need volunteers (you can still race if you want to as well as helping out)! Most of the key positions have already been filled, but we will need lots of help the weekend of. Stay tuned for a volunteer sign up sheet.
The Middle and Long championship events are sanctioned Canada Cup Events. The Saturday afternoon Training event is not a Canada Cup event, but has excellent terrain, an experienced course setter and good controller, so expect a high quality event nonetheless. And, it has a mass start, so… FUN!
Schedule:
- Saturday Morning (June 3rd): Championship Middle – Kelowna Nordic. Brand new map.
- Saturday Afternoon (June 3rd): Mass Start Training – Thunder Mountain North, Summit Parking Lot. Brand new map.
- Sunday (June 4th): Championship Long – Thunder Mountain, Summit Parking Lot. Brand new map. Don’t worry, this map is huge (7 square kilometers kind of huge) – so there will be plenty of unseen terrain after Saturday afternoon.
